Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is finally here, and fans could not be less excited as it brought with itself what was promised and more. However, it looks like the renowned director of the game had one last trick up his sleeve, which was used against the lucky few who got access to the said extension early.
As called out by reviewers on the popular social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), FromSoftware seems to have subtly introduced a few changes to the DLC, shuffling around and putting in place new elements that were not present before or were hidden from those with early-access.
Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Latest Ploy – Were the Reviewers Tricked into Playing Another Version of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC?

It becomes an essential part of the process for studios to have their up-and-coming project reviewed by others in the industry. Usually gathered from content creators as well as media outlets, much like ours, these reviews hold a major significance in creating hype around the actual release scheduled to happen in the coming days.
However, in a unique turn of events, it seems that FromSoftware this time around opted for subtly introducing changes to the DLC during its launch, making it a bit different than what was played by the early-access players.

feels like miyazaki trolling us reviewers too lol
Pointed out by reviewers, much like the one above, there were changes made in Elden Ring update v1.12 which not only helped make player’s life easier while battling the final boss of the base game but sneakily switched around a few things in the Land of Shadow as well.
For those wondering, the alleged changes are how bosses have been altered from their early-access versions, along with how a section of the map has now been entirely redesigned from its previous form.
Why Elden Ring Patch v1.12 Might Be One of the Best Updates to the Game Yet

While it might have subtly introduced some last-minute iterations to the game’s DLC, the recent patch has more to offer than what the player thinks.
Apart from the already mentioned benefit of getting to use your steed while fighting the Elden Beast, it brings to the table some quality-of-life changes that make organizing your inventory as a player way easier than before.
Heading to their display settings in the menu, the player will now find two new options, allowing them to toggle on a new item tab within inventory made exclusively for items collected recently.
Additionally, The ‘Mark New Items’ option helps the player identify better what new items they have obtained, marking them with an exclamation mark.
