While Sony might have taken the lead over their competitors in terms of the latest-generation consoles sold in the market, Xbox still dominates when it comes to controllers used by gamers, being one of the few spaces where the console stays a step ahead.
Through recently revealed statistics by Steam, the world now knows how the aforementioned controller remains preferred by a majority of players, bringing to light how there is one area that PlayStation is lacking in.
Gamers Have Declared Xbox Controllers as the Best Ones There Are
The usage of gaming controllers, especially over the conventional keyboard and mouse combo, has risen significantly in the past few years. To be more specific, the daily average controller usage by gamers has risen from about 5% to a whopping 15% since 2018, as outlined in an official Steam announcement.
The announcement further revealed that 59% of these sessions were played using an Xbox Controller, while 26% of gamers chose Sony’s alternative, and another 10% chose to use their Steam Decks instead.
Despite not being pleasant news for a PlayStation fanatic, the newly revealed data shows how Microsoft is doing it right for once, offering their users a layout that, as often described by gamers, is the most comfortable one out of them all.
Additionally, to further provide an enhanced experience, Valve has made sure to mention how they have added several different features within their game launcher itself. These improvements make it easier for players to navigate with a gamepad, whether it’s a PlayStation or Xbox controller.
Why Steam Remains as the Best Game Launcher of All Time
The most noticeable change users would have noticed in the past few months is the introduction of the Big Picture mode, which redefines how well a controller is integrated with the launcher while also bringing the ‘Steam Deck user experience’ to the big screen.
What has been further simplified is the ability to set, edit, and configure different controller bindings stored within Steam itself, allowing players to start customizing their favored gamepad settings from the very get-go.
With all these established features, Steam has also recently announced that they will now offer the ability to record your game and share it seamlessly with your friends and on the internet, calling it the Steam Game Recording Feature, which remains in beta for now.
