Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Elden Ring is often deemed to be one of the most rage-inducing and frustrating titles to be ever made in the gaming industry. However, this is not only because of the tough bosses in The Lands Between, but also because of the cold mysteries left unanswered in the game.
Many fans were also hoping that the recently released Shadow of the Erdtree DLC would provide the much-awaited answers to these open mysteries, which did not turn out to be the case at all, and it is now up to the player to solve what was the Gloam-Eyed Queen’s role in the storyline.
Queen Marika and the Godskins – Elden Ring Players Are Finally Asking the Right Questions
Since the game’s release in 2022, there have been many speculations revolving around the origins of Queen Marika, the very ruler of The Lands Between and the one who shattered the Ring, setting in motion a series of events that our Tarnished character eventually unravels.
It was also slightly hinted that the Gloam-Eyed Queen and the Godskin had to do a lot with her origin. Commenting under a post in the game’s official Reddit forum, a player stated his dismay when he got to know that this mystery went unanswered in the recent Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

There is ultimately nothing that can be done except make do with what Hidetaka Miyazaki has decided to deliver to the players. Fortunately, the Realm of Shadow does go over her origins, just from a different angle.
How Marika Rose to Power and Conquered The Lands Between

One of the most horrifying discoveries of the recent DLC was that Marika, being born in the Shaman Village, was essentially doomed to be stuffed in a jar by the Hornsent, with the belief that she would ultimately be reborn a ‘saint‘.
However, it is hinted that she instead made her way to the top of the chain and rose to power, winning over the Hornsent’s trust, only to be break it later. It was the order of Marika, given to Messmer, that the Realm of Shadow was to be purged completely, setting the Hornsent near the brink of extinction.
As one would expect, nothing is truly set in stone when it comes to the above-stated theory. However, there remains no doubt that it was the actions of the Hornsent that made an enemy of the one who would eventually rise to rule the whole of The Lands Between.
