Red Dead Redemption 3 Must Not Repeat the Mistake of 1 Award-Winning Feature of RDR2 That Now Feels Undeserving for Rockstar

One of the most common elements that can be observed across nearly all video game titles that came out in the past few decades is how they feature online multiplayer, allowing players to play with their friends and meet new people online while playing the game they love.

Unfortunately, for fans of Red Dead Redemption 2, the online experience was underwhelming, to say the least. The studio responsible for developing the franchise, Rockstar, essentially refused to keep the multiplayer updated and adjusted to what the player base needed at the time, causing the same to be criticized by many.

Why Red Dead Redemption 3 Gives Rockstar a Chance At Redeeming Themselves

What would come as a surprise to many fans is how RDR 2 was actually able to win the Labor of Love award at the recent Steam Awards 2023. For those who might not know, this award is presented to a title when the studio consistently tries to keep the game up-to-date and engaging for the players, which is ironic in this particular case.

While the studio might have managed to win the Labor of Love award, it does not take away the fact that it did not do right by the fans by giving up on support for the online multiplayer in Red Dead Redemption 2, something why many are still bitter about to this day.

On the brighter side, this now presents an opportunity for the studio to finally own up to its actions and treat players with more updated content and better support when they finally release another installment in the franchise.

Why Red Dead Redemption And Other Multiplayer Games Owe Their Success To A Game That Came Out In 1993

The first game to be ever released in the renowned Doom franchise was released back in 1993 and brought with it many of the fundamentals in gaming that are used in the industry even today. These fundamentals, including multiplayer, are the reason behind the success of the recently released Helldivers 2 and other similar titles.

The importance of the game was also talked about by none other than John Romero, the creator of the franchise, as he mentioned via Gamesbeat how the importance of such a revolutionary title cannot be simply put in words. Not only did it introduce multiplayer to the gamers at the time, but also added various elements such as fragging, deathmatch, speedrunning, mods, and free-to-play to the world of gaming

Doom, as a franchise, carries with itself a huge legacy and successfully remains one of the most popular video game series of all time. It also manages to receive a fresh installment now and then, something else Rockstar should follow suit on as fans cannot wait anymore for a sequel to RDR 2.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available to purchase on Steam.
