Posted on the game’s official Twitter account is an image of a nightmare-inducing creature, capable of giving the player goosebumps upon the first encounter. While the horns on the enemy’s head indicate how it is most likely to have a connection with omens in the game, some fans have something that says otherwise.

As theorized by the following user on Reddit, the creature through the bracelets on its wrists and the golden mask seems to resemble the guardians that are often found around Ertree Avatars in The Lands Between. The speculation further dives into how the player is most likely to witness the creature being the guardian of the great crucible tree, a theme that many fans predict is going to be the center plot of the coming DLC.

Moreover, if not a crucible tree guardian, then fans have predicted further how the creature might be the Empyrean Twin Miquella himself, taking on a grotesque form resulting from all the experiments Mohg, the Lord of Blood performed on him.

Through the official gameplay trailer for the DLC, fans now know how they will soon be stepping into an undiscovered realm called The Land of Shadow. It also happens to be the first place Queen Marika set foot on, and later became a significant location for Miquella, allegedly soon after he went into a long sleep in the Haligtree.

The tall figure showcased in the talked-about Twitter posts remains identical to Miquella’s body that rests in its cocoon in Mohgwyn’s Palace, bringing fans another striking similarity between the two entities and the reason why they might be the same.

Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is available to pre-order on Steam.
