Gamers are now in a common consensus, agreeing that the recently released story trailer for Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has turned out to be more confusing than helpful. The 3-minute long video, which gives an insight into the expansion’s storyline, has also caused many theories to spring up, and one of them is how Miquella might not be what he shows himself to be.

Through the narration in-game and promotional material, the character of Miquella has now been associated with the word “kind“. However, players are now guessing how everything has been an act so far, used as a mask to hide the horrid reality behind everything.
Miquella The Kind – Shadow Of The Erdtree To Allegedly Uncover The Empyrean Twin’s Mask

From the very beginning itself, Miquella and his Haligtree are shown to be welcoming to those detested by the golden order, including the Albinaurics. It is also where Miquella chose to rest after abandoning his fundamental teachings which did not offer a solution to his and his sister’s Malenia’s eternal curses, but was unfortunately kidnapped by Mohg soon after.
Moreover, similar to the theory posted by this user on Reddit, the story trailer has brought to light new factors to be considered. This includes how the trailer teases there might be a physical form of gold, only obtainable after one has done the deed of murdering a tarnished, or a similar entity, as portrayed by Queen Marika.
What comes to mind next is the unalloyed gold needle Miquella created to stop the spread of Scarlet Rot within Malenia. The speculation dives into how it’s possible the empyrean brother had to make use of the same gold as shown in the trailer to make the needle, implying how countless lives were lost in the process.
How The Players Might Be A Sacrifice For Miquella In The Coming Elden Ring DLC

Once it is established how Miquella might have resorted to ruthless ways in the past, one can not help but wonder if that is what he plans to do once again in the coming DLC. With the players being called to the Land of Shadow, following in the Empyrean’s footsteps, will it all turn out to be a ploy just so Miquella can once again craft a better, and stronger needle, to fulfill his unknown goals?
Whatever it might turn out to be, fans are assured the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is going to blow every other DLC made for video games out of the water, as it happens to be FromSoftware’s largest expansion yet and directed by the brilliant mind of Hidetaka Miyazaki.
Elden Ring is available to purchase on Steam.
